Letter, James Gleason to Unknown
An incomplete, undated letter from James Gleason, most likely to Kate Gleason. Jim discusses arrangements for his and his mother’s return trip to Rochester from their visit to California, which they took in 1892. He also writes about the new sales agents he has hired and their need to have machines on hand in order to better introduce Gleason products to companies on the west coast. Judging from a reference in the letter, the date might be March 2, 1892.

way. I will be an authority on
ancient tools when I get through here.
March 2nd nearly time to go home.
Uncle Andrew will probably have to
miss Mothers visit. She wants to go home
when I do. If you will send us
money when you get this it will about
make thing the time right. Winter will
be well over by the time we could get
started. Send us enough for a first
class trip and some to spare and when
I get home I will have the balance
in my pocket If we come second class.
Mother is all right now but I wish she
hadnt come to San Franscisco. I must

close up now for its late and I must
get up early see. Will write again
tomorrow. I am surprised that Rix &
Birrell ask for a consignment they
did not speak to me of it. It would
be perfectly safe to make one to them.
The I saw a letter in their office where
the Straight Line Eng. Co. offerred to
send a second engine here as this firm
had sold the first one sent on consignment.
Birrell told me that they would not expect
to carry any stock of ours here.
It would certainly help them introduce
us here if they had a machine.
