Jose Alfredo Samudio was born in 1981 and raised in Buenos Aires, Costa Rica. He came to the United States on a temporary visa when he was 16 years old, along with one of his sisters. He eventually settled in Rochester, NY, where he met his wife and started a family while working as a chef.

In this interview, Jose Alfredo Samudio discusses what it was like coming to the United States as a teenager, his upbringing in Costa Rica, and his experiences in the local Latino community. He explains the importance of sharing his culture with his children, his experience learning English upon arriving in the United States, and how he came to be a chef.
