Hanzell Carrillo was born in 1997 and raised in Nicaragua until he was 14 years old, when he moved to the United States with his mother and sister. He completed his high school education in Rochester, NY, where he continues to live.

In this interview, Carrillo discusses his small-town upbringing in Nicaragua, his memories of major weather events during that time, and changing schools before his family moved to the United States. He explains some of the differences between the United States and Nicaragua, specifically in terms of his experiences with schools. He also discusses holiday traditions in Nicaragua that he misses now that he lives in the United States.
