Jazmyn Haywood was born in Rochester, New York, in 1991 and raised in the area by her parents, who are both from Rochester. She completed her elementary education at School No. 16, went to School of the Arts for middle school, and then graduated from Joseph C. Wilson Magnet High School. She attended Clarkson University, where she studied digital arts and sciences. After completing her bachelor’s degree she attended Canisius College where she received a master’s degree in sports administration. She worked with the Buffalo Bills for three seasons before returning to Rochester. At the time of this interview she works as an academic advisor in the David T. Kearns Center at the University of Rochester.

In this interview she discusses playing basketball, how schools in Rochester have changed, and what her education was like. She explains the debutante program she was a part of in high school, some of the things she did in her neighborhood growing up, and some of the differences between her generation and those that are growing up today. She also discusses her career, the 19th Ward, and community service.
