Lauren Caruso was born in 1984 in Santa Ana, California, and raised in Rochester, New York, from the age of nine months. Her father was from Rochester, while her mother was from California. Caruso grew up in the Penfield area of Rochester. She attended SUNY Cortland for her undergraduate degree, then moved around working in various places before returning to Rochester in 2013. At the time of this interview, she lives in the 19th Ward with her husband and works at the University of Rochester.

In this interview, Lauren Caruso discusses her family, keeping ducks, and how she and others view Rochester. She explains why she moved to the 19th Ward, her work with the Taproot Collective, and her work at the Rochester Center for Community Leadership. She also discusses her involvement with social justice, the numerous areas she has worked in, and growing up and continuing to live in Rochester.
