Interview, Mary Mitchell
Mary Mitchell was born in Bolivia. She lived with her grandmother from ages two to four, when she and her two siblings moved to the United States to join their parents in New York City. She later moved to Rochester, NY, to attend college at SUNY Brockport. After a brief time living in California, she moved back to Rochester to be near family in New York State. In Rochester, she was very active volunteering at her children’s schools. She previously worked at Faraci Lange as a receptionist.
In this interview, Mary Mitchell discusses some of the cultural traditions she practiced growing up, moving to the United States when she was young, and some of the work she has done, both paid and as a volunteer. She explains why she moved to Rochester, her children’s relationship to her Bolivian heritage, and some differences she has noticed between her and her parents’ generations. She also discusses her family, her education, and her identity as a Latino person.
