Interview, Sara Carasquillo
Sara Carasquillo was born in Puerto Rico in 1961 and lived there until 1968 when her family moved to Rochester, NY. She grew up in Rochester and went to Number 20 School for her elementary education. She now works as a secretary in the Rochester City School District.
In this interview, Sara Carasquillo discusses her family history, her connection to the Ibero-American Action League through her sister, and what it was like growing up in Rochester. She examines her experiences of discrimination, her feelings about the importance of learning Spanish, and her views on creating community among Puerto Ricans. She also discusses the differences she sees between her own generation and younger generations of Puerto Ricans.
