Interview, Yesenia Ramos-Torres
Yesenia Ramos-Torres was born in 1974 in the Bronx, New York, and grew up in Washington Heights, New York. At the age of 15 she moved with her parents and siblings to Rochester, New York, where she continues to work and live with her family at the time of this interview.
In this interview, Yesenia Ramos-Torres discusses generational differences among her family, growing up being bilingual, and exposing her children to Spanish. She describes the Latino community in Rochester as well as her involvement in the community including being a board member for the Puerto Rican Festival. She also discusses her family, her connection with her Puerto Rican and Ecuadorian roots, traditions she passed down to her children, and witnessing discrimination.
