Letter, William Gleason to Gleason family
A letter from William Gleason to the Gleason family. William provides advice on issues in the Gleason shop present upon his departure to Panama. He describes his fellow passengers and compliments the coffee in Central America.
The letter is apparently misdated as March 20, 1900. It was written during William’s trip through Panama on his way to the West Coast, which he took in 1906.

Panama March 20 1900
My dear family the ship
sails in about one hour
so I thought I would write
a last word. I am anxious
to hear how Merril Bristol
is I hope he got over it all
right. in speaking with
Andrew about the new
Shop, the he s the Evening
I left home he seemed to
favor the removal of
some of the Turret Machinery
or the Motor driver in
order to relieve the
pressure on the third
floor While I dont want
to make any hard and
fast rule, I am not
in favor of takeing any
of the Automobile work
out there but instead
as mutch as possible of

[Connesvill?] gears work
that is cast turned and
planed. On the spot. I dont
Expect to hear from home
untill I reach San francisco
which wil be about the 10th
of April that wil be the
longest time I have ever
been with out hearing how
things are progressing from
all appearances we are
going to have about
six through passengers
One Man & his Wife Live
in Portland I wil be with
them all the way the
Officers are a pleasant
lot of Men so that I am
Expecting a pleasant
journey tell Margaret that
they make good coffee
down here love to all
