A letter to Kate Gleason from her father, William Gleason. William writes of his arrival in Glasgow and his observations of Scottish machine shops. He comments on a murder and tells Kate that Gleason machines are becoming well known in Scotland.

Dear Kate
Here I am yet I arrived
here thursday night and
Churchils agt had a lot of
places that he wanted me
too visit with him so I
consented to stay I settled
the trouble about the 24”
Planer at Drann & Sons
they are about too order
a 48” as some off there
work is heavy. I am learning
a lot about English and

for grinding fine tools those
double pointed Roughfing tool
that we are sending out with
the G P are not being used
as they have not any way
off sharpening them. but
enough off that – and every
thing else in the same
proportion I visited Langs
too day and received the
letter written on the 21. I am
going too leave here on the 8th
for Berlin, and hope too
get through with Germany
this weeck and France next
then for home I was sorry
too hear off the sad death

that Warren Grenke met with
there is certainly something
wrong in the southern peoples
methods they hold life too
cheap. I will be surprised
and disgusted if the
murderer is not punished
our gear Planers are
becomeing well known
through out the country
and I believe quite
a number off them will
be sold the comeing year
if business keeps as brisk
as it is at present
