Rochester Oct 22
Dear Kate yours of Oct 1st
received. I have not anything
startling to report I was at
Mr Eyeres office when he
received your telegram a day
later the news of the cyclone
was received I have had the
time of my life alittle financial
shinning Just enoughf to
remind me of old times
with out any of the serious
conditions, then existing. the liberty
bonds has just been received and
they work out beautiful if you
have a bond and want to
realize on it all you have to
do is to go to the Bank and

they cash it just the same
giveing ful value
as they do an ordinary check
We declared. Since you left 12 per c
there is to be paid on the
filtration plant but not yet
due $2500.00 when that is paid
I wil have about $4000.00 for you
when you arive everything
is paid, including the two drafts
from Japan, of 300 each
We dont no yet just how mutch
our tax wil be but it wil be
pretty big. About one third
of the work we have is for the government
wha We had 30 generators, ready
to ship to customers and the
were commandered by the G
and sent to France the New
Loan is not fully subscribed
[page 3]

yet it has 6 more days to
run it is going to be close
but it wil be fully taken
the Gleason Works take $200000, of the
new loan the Employes about 40000
Jim and Andrew 50000 each
Elinor 10000 My name was
published as subscribeing for
50000, but that is part of the
200000. Jims Andrews &
Elinors are independent. there
seems to be a desire to get
as many names to the subscriptions
as possible in the same family
the man wife and the older children
I have heard they hoped to get
10 Million names if we get
hard up and have a close
finish I wil put you down for
[page 4]

any where from 50000 to
half a Million that would be
going some. Of course the
half Million is to be taken as
a joke, but the fifty thousand
is more serious. but if subscribed
for it wil be like mine, taken
over by the G Works. your sister
has not one particle of ambition
we wanted to stager the
comunity by haveing Elinor
subscribe for one hundred
thousand, no joke but she
flatly refused and she
gave her reasons, and I
sometimes think she has
more sence than her old Dad
With love WG
