Mivette Clavijo was born in 2002 in Rochester, New York, where both of her parents had moved to from Puerto Rico as teenagers. Clavijo has lived and attended school in Rochester and Jamestown, New York. 

In this interview, Mivette Clavijo discusses her family’s different relationships with Americanization and how her mom mainly speaks Spanish while her dad mainly speaks English without a Puerto Rican accent. She shares that Spanish was her first language, and discusses English as a Second Language (ESL) classes in school and her experience being bilingual. She also discusses growing up in Hispanic churches with her mom, traditional holidays like Three Kings Day, and Rochester’s Puerto Rican Festival.
